About this site

“Intone, O My servant, the verses of God that have been received by thee, as intoned by them who have drawn nigh unto Him, that the sweetness of thy melody may kindle thine own soul, and attract the hearts of all men.  Whoso reciteth, in the privacy of his chamber, the verses revealed by God, the scattering angels of the Almighty shall scatter abroad the fragrance of the words uttered by his mouth, and shall cause the heart of every righteous man to throb.  Though he may, at first, remain unaware of its effect, yet the virtue of the grace vouchsafed unto him must needs sooner or later exercise its influence upon his soul.  Thus have the mysteries of the Revelation of God been decreed by virtue of the Will of Him Who is the Source of power and wisdom.”  —Bahá’u’lláh

The Bahá’í Prayers web site was created as a celebration of the beauty of the Bahá'í scriptures.

Begun in 1998 as a “Year of Service” volunteer project, the site has since grown to include prayers in more than fifty languages.  Many kind people and Bahá’í institutions from around the world have helped along the way.  The site is especially indebted to the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Shoreline, Washington (USA) for their longtime enthusiastic sponsorship.  Thank you, dear friends!

In 2008 the original English language site was redesigned and recoded using modern standards-based markup.  Site visitors using screen-reader software should now have a better experience.  Text on the new site can now be enlarged in all modern browsers.  A visual refresh, careful proofreading, and many new photographs were also included in the project.  The original website is still available for visitors with older browsers.

Prayers for the English language version of the site are primarily sourced from the 2002 edition of Bahá’í Prayers, a compilation found in every Bahá’í home.  Several other Bahá’í scriptures are also quoted on the site, especially Prayers and Meditations by Bahá’u’lláh.  Please see the Text Credits page for complete publishing, usage and copyright information.  The Image Credits page includes photograph copyrights.

The headings under which prayers appear (“Healing”, “Teaching”, etc.) are primarily those found in Bahá’í Prayers, with some additional categories added to help shape the growing site.  These classifications serve only to organize the pages for easier navigation, and should not be regarded as scripture.

If you wish to obtain your own Bahá’í prayer book, inexpensive copies are available from the Bahá’í Distribution Service online or via phone at (800) 999-9019, or from the Bahá’í friends in your community. Free downloadable ebooks are also available.

Thank you for visiting the Bahá’í Prayers website.  I hope that you have enjoyed your visit and will return again.  With warmest regards,

Michael Micheletti
